A prism takes a single beam of white light and bends it, slows it, and splits it into separate colors. In this episode, Jacob uses that image to talk about religion. Beginning with the A Course in Miracles teaching that power does not oppose, he reflects on how the many divisions within faith, along with layers of trauma, upbringing, and dogma, can refract the light until people focus on their differences instead of what they share. Along the way, Jacob shares his experience in Morocco, where the daily call to prayer revealed a brotherhood very different from what he had been told to expect. He draws on his years as a teacher and on raising children to show how being gentle with ourselves, as we grow step by step, frees us from the past.
